Goat keeping has been part of New Hope for many years. We are always trying to expand the herd size. No one milks goats in this area. They are often called ‘mutton’ as in reality there are no sheep herds like you think of in Australia. There are three major festivals were goats are purchased at a premium price. Senior boys are always involved in it and we have to have a person responsible for the herd breeding. The goats have a good ‘house’ and a walking compound that is secure for them and us. Meaning dogs cannot get in to the goats area and the goats can’t get out and eat our growing banana plants! In the above photo is Nani who as a high school student he went every day to check the goats and make a note. You can see in his hand a ‘record book’ The same with the young person caring or the cows VASU. Morning and evening milk records and data related to the whole project. UK £50

Bananas are wonderfully nutritious, packed with vitamins and minerals. Many of our children at New Hope come to us malnourished or have weakened immune systems due to illness. For them, a banana a day gives the boost they need to support their health and future development. We need to plant banana saplings in the New Hope community garden to be able to grow enough bananas to give out each day in our Community Centre It costs around £15 to purchase, plant, water and look after your banana tree.

Bee hive maintenance is a job done by some students and local people who have an interest in the maintenance and upkeep of the hives and bees. Your donation will go a long way with assisting them to purchase protective clothing and other items.

Your donation toward the purchase and growth of tree seedlings helps increase sustainability in the New Hope India villages. Fruit from the trees feeds the children and surplus is sold.

Seed for flowers is a project which fosters crop management and agricultural skills. The seed must be a high standard which includes good sizing, good colour and free of blemishes.
